This global law firm is recruiting a Senior Business Development Manager to join their London office. The holder will lead the business development functions, and supports the lawyers and practice areas across the Firm’s European offices. This position will work with the Firm’s European partners and Business Development Department to identify and generate increased business opportunities.


The Responsibilities:


  • Support European partners in their effort to manage and develop existing and new relationships with in-house counsel, investment bankers, board members and other senior executives. Identify opportunities for implementing business development initiatives in this regard.
  • Keep track of referral sources and ensure communication lines remain open with these sources.
  • Work with the CRM database to support the analysis, by monitoring and improving intelligence on the contacts on an ongoing basis.
  • Attend important practice development conferences to assist in identifying potential developments and business opportunities.
  • Work with partners and guide the Business Development Analyst, when the complexity of a targeted presentation demands it, in preparing targeted presentations (pitch books, short form brochures and deal sheets), in a manner that effectively communicates the Firm’s relevant experience and articulates clear reasons why the Firm should be retained.
  • Assist partners in developing fee proposals for new clients and maintain a database of related information. Collaborate with the Finance and Billing departments on the same.
  • Work with partners on the development of individual business plans. Help partners with their entrepreneurial activities and to focus efforts on the highest value opportunities. Create and periodically release an executive report which amalgamates information for review of the practice area managing partner. Assist the managing partners in their evaluation of business development efforts.
  • Proactively analyse league table information. Work with other Business Development Managers, who are responsible for practice areas, to take efforts to optimize the Firm’s standings.
  • Coordinate with members of the Business Development and Communications teams to ensure targeted and timely submissions to relevant legal and business publications, as well as track and analyse practice rankings. Ensure positive results are leveraged across marketing channels (print, digital, social).
  • Follow Firm news, note wins and correspond with European lawyers to ensure that compelling marketing descriptions, that efficiently communicate the unique aspects of the matter, are crafted. Take responsibility for providing information for the relevant practice experience databases used to track matter details. The Senior Manager will also collaborate with worldwide staff to keep metrics up to date (type of deal, value, currency, etc.) and non-English marketing descriptions up to date.
  • Lead ongoing competitive intelligence research. Identify and report market trends to the relevant group and to individuals, as appropriate to their practice development interests.
  • Support lawyers responsible for building precedent collections. Contribute to the efforts of lawyers, Library and IT departments to create effective taxonomies and technical systems.
  • Lead content aspects of client education conferences and work with the Special Events department in this capacity.



The Candidate:

  • Previous business development experience gained within a law firm
  • Has significant understanding of transactional terminology and processes, as well as basic understanding of litigation terminology.
  • Has interest in the European business market for legal services.
  • Is familiar with the competitive legal landscape and a vision for effectively marketing S&C within that market.
