This leading professional services firm is recruiting a Business Development Manager to join their Reading office to develop and deliver strategic marketing and business development activity. The holder will work with key stakeholders to ensure the firm targets new work, maximises service delivery and quires quality new business and clients.


The Responsibilities:

  • Prepare robust business development plans in line with national strategy, linking in with national service line and sector leads and working with the Regional Head of Business Development and Partner group
  • Deliver the office plans, checking progress against plan regularly, and ensuring delivery within budget and adequate ROI
  • Undertake research to identify sector targets and support business development activity
  • Actively manage the office pipelines, taking responsibility for initiating contact with cold targets and ensuring contact is maintained through the pipeline, helping partners cultivate target relationships and develop action oriented targeting plans
  • Attend networking events and encourage fee earner attendance with a view to developing leads
  • Take ownership of a number of targets, introducing and handing over to fee earning teams as appropriate
  • Attend introductory and scoping meetings with prospects
  • Coach partners and managers through the business development cycle and help motivate and drive positive behaviours, acting as a sounding board for live opportunities
  • Challenge partners on their approach to BD opportunities, and proactively take responsibility addressing any areas for improvement
  • Report on office BD activity and take responsibility for the accuracy and monitoring of office BD KPIs, working with the partner group to address areas of shortfall
  • Project manage high value tenders and provide strategic input and advice on other tenders, ensuring the proposals process is followed
  • Ensure timely debriefs are undertaken after all won & lost tenders and client losses ensuring all data is fully captured
  • Support the development of a credentials and tenders bank
  • Manage and advise on the use of data to ensure high quality data for targeting
  • Manage and drive an effective intermediaries programme to maximise work referrals
  • Adopt the role of brand champion, ensuring all communications are brand compliant and in support of the firm’s communications strategy, including driving the active use of social media
  • Deliver effective internal communications
  • Liaise and follow up with the national PR team to ensure adequate, timely and appropriate regional PR coverage
  • Assist with national and regional marketing and business development projects as required


The Candidate:

  • A professional with strong marketing and business development experience at a managerial level, particularly in targeting new business and proposal project management
  • Strong knowledge of the fundamentals of the business development process, ideally within a professional services environment
  • A professional, credible and confident communicator, with strong influencing skills and the ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels within the firm
